close to a 3 but it misses a lot of what it could've gotten right
a chinese film with illumination characteristics - had a decent amount of potential to be a solid film but falls short due to a lot of issues compounding together
also i didn't expect a chinese film to go with the "change your fate" message given everything i've heard about how the chinese don't go for the individualist shtick but i guess there's a reason that's popular

fantastic direction overall and incredible attention to historical detail
very grisly and visceral action
story was solid and writing was very fitting for the period - eggers does a really good job of making the setting feel both immersive and mythic and frankly that was mostly all I was there for
some of the cg was a little weird-looking and some performances felt a little over-the-top at times
olga and amleth's relationship feels like it kinda comes from nowhere - he takes part in sacking her town and she gets over it and bonds with him over.... what??

really does feel like a student film and the shots they filmed at sheridan really sells it as such
best part of the movie is recognizing which parts of the GTA this was filmed in
narrator and mamanee were funny but the writing, editing/cinematography, acting, and characterization were all not great
