    One of those movies you could watch on mute and be mesmerized nonetheless—the cinematography still astounds some 57 years after its premiere, and a quarter century after its titled setting. And yet the soundtrack, as light on dialogue as it is, tells as much of the story as what’s on screen. 

    I benefitted from reading the corresponding book, which similarly transfixed me and provided context that the movie itself may have left a little too vague.

    Appreciated the comedy of this movie, as well as the individual characters - with great credit to a strong cast. I can’t imagine it’s easy to maintain humour while everyone’s talking over one another, in two different languages no less, but the actors pulled it off over and over again.
