  I admired the way Chef portrayed Carl's depression and insecurity in his personal life by denying its existence and replacing it with hard work in the kitchen under the guise of "passion". However, after Carl's monumental crashout, Favreau declined to significantly challenge the main character any more than he already had been, and the plot degraded to a feel-good movie where everyone got exactly what they wanted. One could take away the morals of humility and family-values, but I'd have liked to see some sacrifice and genuine hardships that don't automatically solve themselves.
