More film appreciation thoughts…
The stunts, special effects, cameras, and overall cinematography is beyond impressive.
Significantly less than impressive is the plot and character development. Thankfully, the questionable story takes up very little screen time in the film, with the rest being dedicated to Buster Keaton’s gift for comedy. I couldn’t help but compare this weak point to Chaplin’s balance of comedy, stunts, and story. Overall, “The General” is far from my favorite film, but I can set aside my plot-centered complaints in light of the director’s innovation and dedication to advancing the era’s cinematography.Translated from by
