This was day 7 of my 31 days of horror challenge
The Conjuring probably has a special place in a lot of people’s memories. I personally believe it was a massive turning point in modern horror in terms of what a viewer would expect of a horror movie before going in. In preparation for eventually watching Beau is Afraid, i watched this for the first time and as far as comprehension goes im no good.
This whole movie feels metaphorical, something i didnt remember from hereditary which i really enjoyed especially after a second viewing so i assume this movie also shines brighter after a second time through. I feel strangely when I consider this a horror movie, and i feel the same with midsommer. The first 3 quarters of Hereditary is by no means chill and happy family flick, but the last 20 minutes are some absolutely breathtaking and petrifying moments of cinema and culmination.
