A delightfully creepy turn from a terrifically on form Hugh Grant leaves you wondering where it’s all going as he somehow keeps a mouthful of a script light on its feet.
Though perhaps let down slightly by some of its third act twists this one’s more about the journey than the final destination.
A two and half hour Previously On, that tells us nothing about Furiosa that Charlize Theron didn’t get across in a single, growling glower.
A powerful, beautiful adaptation of Claire Keegan’s elegiac, yet scathing indictment of a society and nation that looked the other way, allowing evil to proliferate within its own sleepy borders. Searingly simple and understated, but pinned by a coldly furious central performance from Murphy that appears to give nothing while giving everything.
Maybe reading the book first will prepare you for the blindsiding, full-stop of an ending. Or maybe it won’t. Masterful.
Scott can still mount an awesome spectacle, but Crowe’s shadow looms large over the film and Mescal struggles to ever step out of it. The film seems more concerned with jumping through hoops establishing connective tissue with its predecessor, rather than ever flexing any new muscle of its own.
That said, the cinema was packed. Are you not entertained?
