  It’s really a shame — first half of this film is actually pretty good, but the second half dissolves into an inane, predictable, trope-y mess that squanders its promising start. It’s almost like the first half was directed by Tobe Hooper, and the second directed by a film student who likes Tobe Hooper. As a re-quel, it really does dishonor to the original as well.

  Contrived story and messaging bog down a forgettable film that otherwise should check off all the boxes. You may remember the music though, that aspect for the film is quite good.

  Yes, it’s a movie that doesn’t need to exist, but am I glad it does? Also yes. The first 20 minutes are a little slow but then it gets moving, and the Emmas both slay the screen in a campy thrill ride that doesn’t disappoint.
