Close Your Eyes 2022
Sorry y’all I’m on YouTube just binging random horror shorts. One thing that I’ve noticed is that a lot of them use movement and sound to create the creepy and unsettling atmosphere. So even if the narrative doesn’t all the way make sense, or if there’s too little there to even make sense of anything, the atmosphere/visual is what “saves” it and gives it some kind of edge. Idk some of these are cool and effective even if the idea is familiar or feels like it has been done before.

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person 2023
This film has immediately become very important to me. A coming of age vampire story exploring the loneliness of being and staying alive, the search for meaning in our lives, and the (human) connections we find necessary to balance these often conflicting parts of ourselves. The Watermelon Woman 1996
Wow. I loved this so much. Instantly a new favorite of mine. Obsessed with the aesthetics and the cinematography. Cheryl Dunye’s debut oozes so much style, creativity, and charm. Can’t wait to rewatch this one. Black queer cinema is so inspirational. I hope my writing, both creative and scholarly, will be as hopeful and important as this film one day.
