John Le Carre is by far my favorite novelist. His tone and complex narratives are hard to get right. And adaptations of his work nearly always fall short. This is a rare series that not only captures the interiority but also the spy craft. Park was a surprisingly perfect fit for the material. And Pugh embodies this complicated character perfectly. There's a comedy writing technique known as, "inappropriate response" where, in the hopes of to garnering a laugh, a character or group of characters give the least appropriate response in any given situation.

That's this entire movie, from beginning to end. Every. Single. Scene.
    And it's exhausting.
