    Seen live at the SEC Armadillo with the Chicago synth-led orchestra. Given that Vangelis passed away 2 years ago, and that his score for Blade Runner is my favourite soundtrack of all time, this was not only an extraordinary experience, but it was moving in ways I hadn't anticipated. This may well be my favourite cinematic experience to date.

    In memory of the late, great Donald Sutherland. My favourite of all the many films of his I've watched (except, perhaps, JFK, but in that film, he's part of an ensemble - here, he has leading man status).

    A genuine legend, who earned this bonafide title by giving, without exception, a lifetime of extraordinary, fascinating, often understated performances and identifying projects of interest and/or substance. Or was it his presence that made some of his films this way? No doubt!…

    Spielberg had to be convinced by Quincy Jones to direct this adaptation of Alice Walker's extraordinarily powerful book as he originally felt a director of colour would be able to relate more to the material.     For some reason, this film rarely gets mentioned and I've often found myself wondering why this is.

    Maybe because it's not perfect, but so are most films so I've come to a rather unsatisfactory conclusion that it's because - and I truly hate this word - it's not "cool" (a notion, guide or predisposition for many that I find beyond pointless and utterly redundant).
