  Beca’s boobs, it all boils down to the queer gaze.

  Consider the erotics of Chloe’s wandering gaze
  and the inherent sexual tension of a perfect
  layered harmony and the ensuing widened eyes.

  Observe how Beca and Chloe speak in side-eyes,
  subtext, and Pitbull mashups. The Barden Bella gays
  may be quiet, but their homosocial rivalries are perfect.

  I wanted to enjoy this film more than I did. It was pure vibes w lots of pretty shots and good colour grading but the screenplay was…sparse and often hard to follow. I loved the meta commentary on the creation of legends, and it was self-referential in a manner I found fresh and intriguing, but this was ultimately undermined by the confusion this film instilled in me. The episodic nature of the story left me wondering whether it could have been instead adapted as a limited series, or perhaps an easier-to-follow film.

  Dev could skewer me on his sword and roast me on his spit, though.
