gerwig delivered a sublimely optimistic production. the film was a clever satire with a sprinkle of the patriarchy, existentialism, and capitalism in it. i came into the cinema with no knowledge on the synthesis or production and was thoroughly pleased with how gerwig treated barbie not as an aspirational ideal, but as someone whose journey represents the challenges and contradictions of growing up as a woman.
