gerwig delivered a sublimely optimistic production. the film was a clever satire with a sprinkle of the patriarchy, existentialism, and capitalism in it. i came into the cinema with no knowledge on the synthesis or production and was thoroughly pleased with how gerwig treated barbie not as an aspirational ideal, but as someone whose journey represents the challenges and contradictions of growing up as a woman.

hi. fifth (sixth?) rewatching this, and it never gets old!! the book is my comfort book, and i am in love how the movie chose to present the story in a non-chronological way. this chronological shuffling jolts the story awake and nudges the viewer to pay close attention. gerwig unearths an intricate, reflective sense of memory and nostalgia within the conversation and scenes she fosters between the filmโs two timelines. her structure of well-paced flashbacks, laced with emotional peaks andโฆ
"i can excuse them because it has my favorite tropes ๐ฅบ they're enemies to lovers!! ๐ณ" did you forget to mention the fact that they're enemies, because the guy is a racist republican who falls in love with a latina liberal?
it annoyed me to see sofia carson's character completely forget about her political and moral views as soon as she got together with the guy, because the movie never showed them addressing or resolving the different views the both of them had.
