    Most English-language words ending in "-ism" have an "-ist" counterpart, at least when such words denote beliefs, philosophies, methodologies, movements or vocations—we have Maoism and Maoists, empiricism and empiricists, journalism and journalists, etc.

    But not every "-ism" has an "-ist", per the dictionary anyway. There are no euphemists, no priapists (please do not tell me if these exist), no alcoholists. But I think we can distinguish between alcoholics and alcoholists, the latter subscribing to alcoholism like a political ideology. This movie is about moderate alcoholists. For a radical alcoholist, look to Mark E. Smith.
