Tom Hardy is usually pretty watchable, but he's wildly underutilized here. The premise has a lot of potential, almost none of it made good on. There's a few bright spots along the way, balancing violence and humor, but they are indeed few and far between. The film feels like an insecure prologue that never gets its footing, but it was fun enough to watch and left me hoping for another, better Venom movie, though I'm not holding my breath that the Carnage film will be it (despite starring the excellent Woody Harrelson.)
