    Nosferatu

    ★★★★

"From the seed of Belial came forth the vampire Nosferatu."

My first time watching a silent film and, boy, what an experience. It's very likely that my predisposition to enjoy anything Nosferatu-related influenced my opinion on this, but that ain't nothing against it, no. It is, in fact, a good thing. I could be feeling disappointed for expecting more than a 1922 silent, mostly colorless, movie could offer, but, on the contrary, I'm infinitely glad with what was delivered to…

    Raw

    ★★★★★

"You couldn't try something other than my finger?"
    "You taste like curry."

When I first watched Raw, I was 18 years old. Back then, I still had no better understading of myself and admiting my taste for the unconventional was still something difficult for me to do. I had just begun my journey through self-discovery, and, after watching this, I felt disgust, yes, but also, I was left with a deep sentiment of fascination, some type of awe that I…

I understand the criticism but I still think Henry Cavill's Superman is better than Ben Affleck's Batman, and not only as a character, his films are also objectively better. Batman vs Superman was a mistake, though, so... there's that.

  • Belle de Jour

    Belle de Jour

    ★★★½

Sensitive. Depraved. Secretive in its hollow spaces made for the audience to fill in. On a personal note, I was never much of a fan of open endings and subtle surrealism, so it wasn't really a surprise when this didn't hit particularly hard for me, but Deneuve's performance is so sublime that it didn't even matter that much. A darkly fun watch.

  • Anora

    Anora

    ★★

The phrase “sex work is work” has become something of a liberal tick, a knee-jerk response from establishment figures in politics, media and the arts to acknowledge the shifting social attitudes around prostitution without asserting material gains like decriminalizing sex work or codifying legal and civil protections for sex workers. Or, in Baker’s case, to avoid giving us a complex depiction of a sex worker. Instead, Anora embodies the dehumanizing consumer fantasy of a devoted worker who loves the consumer…

  • Three Days of the Condor

    Three Days of the Condor

    ★★★½

the romance felt so out of place, forced and odd in this, i don't know who thought it'd be a good idea to fit an stockholm-syndromey relationship into this film, but oh well. it goes pretty nice if you can ignore the weird, lowkey rapey romance ("have i ever denied you anything?" was an insane bar, mind you) that stalls the thrilling narrative a bit. robert redford makes it so easy to enjoy the movies he stars in, it's kinda annoying. in a positive way. anyway... best final 20 minutes i've seen in a while.
