I had the chance to see this in my city’s independent theater, and instead saw Alien Romulus. Whew, missed opportunity there. This movie is made for that kind of viewing. I’m a sucker for coming of age movies so it’s no surprise this reeled me right in. How sad is it that ‘08 is far enough away to make this a period piece?

It doesn’t get much better than this. Daniel Day Lewis, Vicky Krieps, and Lesley Manville put on a clinic. Music’s perfect, set design is gorgeous. The whole thing just encapsulates melancholy so well. Woodcock proving that geniuses are usually on the spectrum
