This was the first movie I watched since I started logging movies on Letterboxd that I feel compelled to write about. Written by anybody else, it would be a masterpiece of storytelling, going deep into an isolated mind, emasculated by his first marriage and dating a teenager to cope. However, it feels difficult to see Isaac as a satirical and sad figure in the context of Woody Allen's life which so closely mirrors Isaac's shortcomings. I haven't quite made up my mind on the importance of authorial intent, but it feels hard to like the movie if Allen's intent is important, and hard not to otherwise.
Favorite movie ever. An ode to sitting back and enjoying the ride, the dude expounds his relaxed philosophy through a convoluted ransom case and a series of league games at the bowling alley.
