Drive-Away Dolls 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The main gag in Drive-Away Dolls is that Margaret Qualley is a quirky slut. I wish I found that more funny, because I love the Coens and really wanted to like Ethan Coens first narrative without his morose brother, but I don’t. That gag takes up a good chunk of the movies 80 minute runtime and it grows tired almost immediately. When Qualley says her lines, it sounds like she’s saying her lines and they are almost always meant to…

Miracle Mile 1988
There’s a tonal shift that is so abrupt it might make you laugh and I’m not sure that was the point. It’s rhythm as a whole is so off putting that I can’t imagine too many people making it past the first few minutes, but if you do, you’ll be in for a little treat.
I really liked it.

Frankenstein 1931
This movie has no business being called Frankenstein, let alone considered a classic horror movie. It’s silly, unimaginative, overacted bullshit. I gave it half a star simply for Boris Karloff’s performance. He did what he could with a really stupid version of The Monster. I’m not one to compare a novel to a film adaptation, but the novel is so beautiful and this piece of shit had none of that beauty whatsoever. It only succeeds in briefly capturing the sadness of The Monster thanks to Karloff. Reading what filmmakers I admire say about this movie makes me feel like a philistine. Fuckin shitty god damn movie.

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory 1971
A half star off for the casting of Charlie. He works so well but the kid is hideous. And that mouth of his, the wet lips, the way it just hangs open; it’s revolting. Another half star off due to the fact that it becomes more and more difficult to watch any scene with Charlies fuckin loser grandparents.
Grandpa Joe is a bum and he makes sick. Fuckin leach ass motherfucker, get real. It’s still as enchanting as ever and Elio loves it.
