The gimmick doesn’t sustain interest enough to justify the runtime, it really could be cut down to a short film without sacrificing the natal propaganda. It’s swinging its tiny fists at the declining birth rate >.<

It’s ok , some very funny poignant moments but a little heavy handed and unsatisfying. The comedy and critique both get a bit lost in the smokescreen. Look out for the slightly tacky reference to dasies in the beauty contest lineup hehe

Part of what made gene kelly films so charming is that gene kelly himself was charming, talented, weightless. Singin’ in the rain itself is an exercise in nostalgia, bright eyed and sardonic. La La Land on the other hand creeps forwards at a halting pace, a miserable Ryan Gosling drags Emma Stone around to dull elevator jazz.
