The House That Jack Built 2018
having seen nymphomania and antichrist i was excited to see how Von Trier’s matter-of-fact style of filmmaking would work with a dark tale about murder. I was thrilled to find it worked intensely, giving the film a completely fresh energy to it that you don’t see in others. I like me a disturbing film and this certainly didn’t disappoint but aside from the controversial imagery on screen, there’s still a clear narrative and the film never feels gratuitous in its violence. It simply shows you what’s happening on screen and forces you to watch without it ever feeling over the top or dramatic.
