The Haunted Mansion 2003
would you guys be mad if i said i liked this more than poltergeist
in all seriousness this was a childhood favorite of mine, and it’s still pretty good! solid horror movie for kids and families. i feel like a lot of horror for kids dumbs itself down because it doesn’t trust its audience - whereas haunted mansion tackles some pretty heavy subject matter like race, class disparity, and suicide. the cast is pretty solid for the most part, and there’s some freaky practical effects. fun movie overall

traumatized me pretty badly as a kid - wanted to face some old fears and get it out of my system. It was just… okay, to be honest. it has some cool implications - like the entire development of the town and the act of residing there being a sin in itself.
i think the movie should’ve committed to some more meaningful consequences. even though we know as the audience what happened to carol anne, the vibes the family gives…

i genuinely adore this movie, like it’s top tier chick flick. I fucking love bridesmaids.
BUT. i am a milwaukee dood and that genuinely makes it funnier because so little of this movie is shot on location… and when they reference random ass streets that literally DON’T EXIST like… it’s not even a critique it’s just fr so fucking funny to me and it enhances my experience. and also the actual “on-location” spots are like. yay :D yipeee so cool
anyway. love it. So epic. obsessed with fiona apple’s Paper Bag being on the soundtrack, like…. damn….. DAMN!!
