What an unrelenting ode to cinema. Chazelle loses the thread a few times in the first half but you can make the case that the incredible second half doesn't work without it. I was really caught off guard when the tears started flowing near the end and I'm not really sure how to feel. It's obvious from the last shot that its all supposedly worth it, but I'm left wondering if it really was.

I love movies and the magic…

I knew I loved this movie, but wow. It really might be one of the most under appreciated masterpieces ever. This film evokes so many emotions on so many different levels. Whether it be through the awe and reaction of humanity's discovery, frustration toward peoples more fearful nature, the haunting and beautiful score, or deeply touching personal story of Louise; it will hit from every direction.

Villeneuve and Adams do such a masterful job of capturing the empathy of language;…

Are you fucking kidding me? This has got to pretty easily be the musician biopic like ever right? How did we let this flop?

There's such a rawness and sincerity present in every beat. Nothing has that air of self seriousness that so many of these have. The ride is fun even if it's a fucking tragedy. Everything just works.

A beautiful movie that maybe just didn't catch me in the right head space. I found myself bored occasionally, but will definitely revisit.

I'm also a big fan of Easy Living by Billie Holiday

Score could definitely be higher, but apparently 2pm on a Saturday is a bad time to expect a very niche horror to not have an awful and disrespectful audience in attendance. One person in particular not shutting up for the entire runtime.

Aside from the external factors; I think I did really enjoy this. It's definitely a slow burn, but the dread absolutely builds. Having the killers perspective makes his tempered rage crawl across your skin as he unleashes his malice. I'll look forward to seeing this again in a controlled setting, but may give it awhile because it is rather unsettling. In the best ways.

I kind of wish I wasn't so fresh on the original before going into this and Aaron Taylor-Johnson did kind of take me out of it at times.

All of that aside though this was absolutely oozing with filth in all of the best ways. The since of dread, as you're pulled ever deeper into yet another world crafted meticulously by Eggers, is unsettlingly palpable. Every shot of a shadow crawling over the Count's victims feels as if it's reaching…
