    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

    ★★★★★

The barbarity of the meat industry cannot be understated. Meat production is legalized animal cruelty that profits off the murder of living things. Intentional or not, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre understands the horror engrained in the experience of animals forced into a life of misery. The film brilliantly illustrates the parallel between slaughter house practice and the brutal demise of its protagonists. The mirrored experiences of the human victims and the millions of animals who are victimized every day…

    Nightbitch

    ★★★

Nightbitch can’t decide if it wants to be The Substance or a Hallmark movie, so naturally it’s something strangely in the middle. It somehow managed to be both preachy and refreshing, bizarre and conventional, shocking and tame. Ultimately, it just needed to double down and go harder. The movie is simultaneously able to lean into what makes it strange while also playing it extremely safe.

A sold out theatre while drinking PBR was truly the ideal viewing experience. I always underestimate both how funny and depraved Blue Velvet can be while still managing to seamlessly balance both sides.

After each watch I've found myself more intrigued in the subtext and symbolism scattered throughout the film - and naturally with Lynch there's a lot. The deconstruction of an idealistic "Norman Rockwell" suburban life, the ignorance and danger that comes from nostalgia, the deterioration of innocence -…

    Babylon

    ★★

Endlessly infatuated with the sound of its own voice, Babylon mindlessly rambles for an unjustifiable length, hoping the audience eventually confuses pretentiousness for astonishment as the credits roll. For the sake of spectacle, Chazelle results to throwing literal shit and piss at the canvas, foolishly believing that his magnum opus will become of it once his bowels are empty. Drenched in a fowl stench of its own self-importance, Babylon is somehow still painfully unaware of its own odor.

    What’s especially…
