If I see one more biopic about a musician that has a slow push in as they discover a future classic I'm gonna LOSE it.

This is a pretty interesting experiment of a film. It's constant - yet never dizzying - flow of "life-vignettes" are a real hit or miss. Some of them work! Tom Hanks and Robin Wright are great, and the aperitif-like flashes we get with them are generally on the mark. But then there's the other stuff... Self-reverential historical blips that feel a little shallow, and Paul Bettany hamming up his performance to an almost is-he-fucking-with-us level of theatricality.
