  To my surprise I liked this much less than expected. I haven’t read the book but as so many recommended the series to me, I truly wanted to enjoy it.

  Some complex and interesting themes throughout the series, but the main characters were insufferable! Their flawed communication skills were extremely frustrating, perhaps I just don’t like miscommunication tropes. 

  Marianne has the worst taste in men, but cannot blame her given her awful upbringing. I did feel for her.

  It is painful to see such a horrid real life ordeal narrated so beautifully. Such humane storytelling, depicting a mother’s determination and resilience in the face of authoritarian rule. She did all she could to protect her babies!!! I personally need to learn more about the political history of Brazil… definitely motivated by the unsettling feeling of injustice I had after leaving the cinema.
