Obviously the soundtrack was top tier, Chazelle’s passion for jazz shines as brightly as ever in Whiplash. The lighting is utilized impressively to create a mood that carries on the stark reality of wishing to go down in history. The acting and writing are generally realistic to performing in real life, although slightly exaggerated for cinematic and dramatic effect. The Grand Budapest Hotel 2014
Wes Anderson’s deadpan style can feel so alienating but personal at the same time. I’ve been in love with that style since fantastic Mr fox, and this movie was so heavy and funny and emotional and amazing all while keeping true to the deadpan nature of his films. Including an all-star cast as always and gorgeous cinematography with expertly balanced composition that complimented the elegant set design, this movie was visually stunning. Gustave and Zero’s relationship and the growth they undertake together is really great. From any way a movie can be judged, I’d give the Grand Budapest Hotel a 5/5
