  As a Korean-American, it was horrifying enough to learn/read about the atrocities committed on Jeju Island, but truly nauseating and traumatic to witness even a fraction of the raw brutality unleashed by S. Korean soldiers underneath orders from the U. S. military. Absolutely despicable. Found it very interesting how Jiseul did not explicitly portray many of the young misled Korean soldiers as solely “evil” but rather confused, traumatized, and even potentially traitorous for their desire to desert the military.
