went in expecting a generic horror movie and left with a new top 10 favorite.
the plot of questing for a slice of pizza lends well to the surreal feeling of a sudden alien apocalypse and the movie diverts a lot of horror movie cliches in refreshing ways. i enjoyed the creative ways of using environmental sounds for the characters advantage.
i'm glad to have seen this in a movie theater since the soundscape was such an important element but i found the movie to be visually very beautiful as well.

Watched this in school as part of an assignment where we compared the book and the movie and could not help but feel like the movie missed the point by a country mile. The second it started and there was no narration I knew there was no hope. I felt like the book benefitted enormously from being narrated by future Elio and taking away not only the narration but also their reunion at the end made the story not be about growing up and falling in love with life but rather be about how cool and sexy pedophilia is.
It's a very odd movie. It almost feels like it wants to be about a haunted house but is stuck being about AI. It has that classic science goo that can do everything which always feels a bit lazy. The ending was very bland and kind of nonsensical. Altogether, it's not a very good movie but it's not boring.
