    Akira

    ★★★★

I honestly would love to rate this a 5/5 but I feel like I struggled to understand some if not most of the movie. But, even with my lack of understanding, I’m still able to appreciate the masterpiece this film was. I absolutely love a good anime, and the hand-drawn animation in this put some of my favorite animes to shame with it’s incredible detail on every single thing depicted. Akira combined anime and science fiction, with a cyberpunk aesthetic.…

    The Big Lebowski

    ★★½

I understand the appeal, I DO… However, I am not one of those people who can watch someone’s incompetence and find humor in it. This film just made me so frustrated with the lack of common sense everyone seemed to have, but especially Walter by a long shot. Genuinely, his character and decisions made it so tough to enjoy. Another one of those “So bad it’s good” movies. But it’s so self aware, that it’s enjoyable to watch and laugh not at it, but with it. Hanky Panky contains everything that makes a cult film. You have your insane collection of characters (a literal two faced woman, a talking handkerchief who gets turned on by crying, and everything in between). The acting in the film is not the best in the world, but it doesn’t even matter when you…

    El Topo

    ★★★

El Topo (1970) is such a definitive piece of experimental, avant-garde cinema. The first viewing of the movie, with no context as to who Alejandro Jodorowsky is, his life experience and values, can be one of the most bizarre, confusing moments in the audience’s life. Jodorowsky (the writer, director, and star of the movie) had incorporated many visual elements and symbolism throughout the film that seem to have little to no relevance, in some instances, to the actual movie. These…
