I watched On the Silver Globe a few weeks ago and complained that the characters felt like mouth pieces for ideas, ranting and monologuing at each other without any realistic interaction. Metropolis 1927
Every bit as influential, groundbreaking and spectacular as everyone told you. There's some weird story beats and plot contrivances that made me knock the rating down slightly but it's par for the course for movies of this period.
It actually has a bit more thematic depth than I was anticipating and you can look at it from a few perspectives. The religious stuff is quite interesting too. I watched the 148 minute version but there's also a 3 hour cut I might check out one day.
