For a film that swings for the fences as wildly as this does, it sure is absolutely fucking boring.

Eric Roberts is absolutely terrific as a man spiralling completely out of control because he's lost control. He's equal parts pathetic, dangerous, creepy and desperate. He's so good you almost have sympathy for him.
Mariel Hemingway is also great here too it should be said, she perfectly embodies innocence at the start but she's never stupid and as the film goes on she is just trying to let this guy down gently even if he doesn't deserve it.
Depressing.
David Cronenbergs gas man phoning customers thanking them for their service and letting them know that the gas will keep flowing until the end is oddly beautiful and lovely.
I probably built this up too much in my head over the years but this is still a really good little film. The focus on characters and how they deal with the incoming end of the world rather than how and why the world is ending makes this much more powerful.…
