Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 2017
If not for the ending, this would probably sit at a solid 3.5 stars - but James Gunn has a way of infusing his films with a deeper meaning, and I love that.
The Guardians films have far more heart and soul than a typical superhero movie requires, and that extra depth makes all the difference.
Also, I will always admire how Gunn incorporates music into his cinematography - it’s just masterful.

I love how he takes a group of misfits - virtually unknown to a mainstream audience and creates a story that explores the heart of found family, personal growth, and past trauma.
It’s proof that superhero movies can be so much more than fancy VFX and colourful spandex when you know how to balance tone, high-impact action, and an iconic soundtrack.

Thor 2011
No because this is actually a really solid film. Its fun, full of character and clever references, and the soundtrack is so good!
It’s not without its flaws don't get me wrong, but the blend of Norse mythology and Shakespearean drama brings a unique and compelling angle to the superhero genre. There was so much potential for the sequels in that concept alone.
Also, Chris Hemsworth. You are a work of art.
