Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters 1985
I have not been struck by a film like this one in a long time. I had to watch Mishima twice over the weekend to get a firm grasp on it.
Was not aware of Mishima before viewing, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a biopic that is more layered and thought provoking than this one. It causes you to want to read every book on the man, and every book he has written.

Super Dark Times 2017
This is great, loved the performances. Feels like an actual indie, unlike a lot of bigger budget movies I’ve seen recently that just claim to be. Captured the 90s perfectly.
Obviously lackluster in a lot of areas, but the things that this movie got right make up for what went wrong.

I think Egger’s eye for detail and love for period accuracy works really well in a confined setting, with a singular plot and a strong focus on the performances of a few actors. When you throw millions of dollars at him and tell him to make it bigger and better, it stops working.
