After rewatching this movie on a come down - it feels like being in love with a piece of art, so captivating it consumes you yet you’re never in the right body to fully possess it. You can look at it, feel its presence and marvel at its beauty but it’s always just out of reach. It’s not the object itself that matters, but the feelings it evokes, the longing, the awe, the ache. A great film done so well! Hands down the best depiction of aliens I’ve seen. It doesn’t need unnecessary violence, it’s about language and perception. And I love that it takes only one woman to understand. The aliens are absolutely fucking cool as fuck and some scenes with them made me genuinely emotional. I wanna be friends with them.

    Individualism kills the collective.

Absolutely loved how rich the visual symbolism was, almost like a separate narrative told through the material culture - how it changes and transforms. With each death you see the soul of the land chip away piece by piece alongside their connection to their roots - in juxtaposition with the locust approaching the land. The representation and how the narrative was rooted in the Wayuu indigenous culture was incredibly done. This is a story on how ambition and greed fracture tradition, family, and community.
