  Coco is peak animation and storytelling. This is a film that is both visually beautiful and emotionally deep. I love the authentic portrayal of Mexican culture. The music is a huge part of my love for the movie. It has so many memorable songs that supplement the plot nicely. Coco is a film that will stay with you long after you’ve seen it, reminding us of the importance of following your dreams and celebrating the lives of those we’ve lost.

  I do not like The Book of Life. Manolo and Joaquin lack depth, and Maria is a boring damsel in distress. The modern pop music feels out of place and ruins the flow. All of the facial expressions are exaggerated and over the top. The animation lacks any nuance or subtlety. I can’t invest in the characters when their faces show no emotion. This is a disappointingly bland and predictable film.
