“Certainty is the great enemy of unity. Certainty is the deadly enemy of tolerance.”
Heaps of gripping dread in this thriller.
A sobering reminder that line between “fan” and “fanatic” is a truly thin one.
Gaga is great in this.
I’m ashamed it took me so long to see this. It’s amazing how much is accomplished with action contained to one location. The way the story evolves just doesn’t let your heart rate drop at any moment. The characters are all so well explored and fill a wide spectrum of morality. Jodie freakin Foster is a powerhouse in this and a very young Kristen Stewart hold her own in a cast made up of largely actors who now have Oscars.
The scares here are great! James Wan knows just how to build tension and give you heart attacks that might make you not want to continue watching, but you will. There’s a surprisingly good story underneath it all with characters you want to root for, making it far more than just a film out to make you jump in your seat.
