Safe to say this wasn't one of my mum's better picks for a family movie night (note: my parent's both liked it!). Found the opening hour or so of parental abuse/poverty porn very poorly handled; felt like we were supposed to gawk and scoff at these characters, rather than empathise with and come to understand the individuals and their situation.
