If you want to know why Bernstein’s compositions and conducting is so revered— watch one of the several documentaries about his life or footage of him conducting, or, you know, actually listen to the music.
If you want to watch a well shot film about needing vs wanting, allowing yourself to need, depriving yourself of need, over indulging in wants because you don’t accept what you need, that also has a rather clumsy first half— then I suggest this film.

Chemistry between leads was middling, especially in comparison to other versions of Emma. No visceral heat from Mr. Knightly and Emma is not at all detrimental to the storyline or the character arcs, although their relationship can trail off to the paternal side, which doesn't give enough credit to their full relationship arch in both the original text and to other, just as faithful, adaptions. A great edition to this version of Emma was the emphasis on Emma's longing for…
