I liked it- not only because Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz are Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz although that was important too. I think the script was bad on purpose - mimicking this soap opera telenovela media that the majority of Spain was consuming during this period in time. But they twisted it a little and made it like experimental and alternative. The men are all animals, rabid dogs, squealing pigs, cussing parrots. And everyone is eating ham and garlic. Omg also so pretty to watch- beautiful shots and colors.

What a pleasure to watch! This was everything I expected and more. Scandalously relevant, with sharp humor I think I had a big grin plastered on my face for the better half of the film.
I can’t even talk about the Louis Armstrong cameos (i love his little face) and the music scenes were to die for, the characters so well rounded, their chemistry palpable to every set of eyes staring down. This is, for me, a pretty perfect film.…Translated from by -
