as the cardinals shut themselves from the world and its noises, they are locked among the sight of one another, forced to decide the future of their Institution based on the people, events and ideas that surround them within sealed doors.
what they couldn’t possibly imagine was that the outside world could get so loud and troubled that it would beg to come in, beg to take a place among their thoughts; and that eventually it would come bursting in, and not one cardinal would be able to cast their vote without first listening to the birds outside.
