This was a very cute movie. I don't speak Japanese and didn't have subtitles so I watched this with my grandma (who does speak it) and she told me what was happening (so take this review with a grain of salt). The film opened on a shot of a cat and my grandma nudged me and explained, "There is a cat." Later in the night, I fell asleep once we'd moved on to watching something else and my mother told…

It was so interesting to see a movie about Alzheimer's disease told from the perspective of the person who has it. They did a really good job of making the experience of the disease feel palpable. It was a very simple but moving story and Ken Watanabe's performance was wonderful. Well-written and well-acted. Very heartbreaking.

I don’t know who half these people are so I asked my mom what she’d rate it out of 5. She loved it and said you had to be there. And that killer bees were very relevant in the 70s when they did that sketch??? But she also thought the movie didn’t put as much effort into writing about the women on the show as it did the men.

I love how much she remembers everything about pop culture throughout…

I saw this on a second date and he told me he was gonna rate it 3 or 3.5 stars but, after I rejected him, I checked and he gave it 2.5 and called it “very stupid.”

I love rom com adaptations of Shakespeare and they did a good job! Not faithful to the source material but I think that’s for the best here. Still lots of fun Shakespeare nods and they did a good job capturing the witty antagonism…

Beautiful, indulgent, summery hot. Wonderfully adapted from the book. While the book is best taken in sips (it can be a lot to be inside the head of an infatuated teenage boy), the movie is a lot easier to stomach. Both completely worthwhile. This perfectly captures the intoxicating highs and wallowing lows of young love.

Truly a masterpiece. I had a wobble last winter and watched this movie maybe 7 times in the span of a month, and read the book as well. I don't imagine anyone will ever want to replicate this experience — but I wish they would. I've never seen a more well-done book-to-screen adaptation. So much care went into this, but it comes across as really effortless. There are so many lines from the book that were written seamlessly into the…

We had no subtitles so I was relying on my grandma to explain what was happening for this one. I think my favourite thing about the movie was how beautifully filmed all of the greenery of the backyard was. Viscerally summer in that way Japanese movies do so well. The movie was very boring but I liked Grandma explaining it to me. I think she likes the boring ones best. I liked when Morikazu squished the food he was about to eat.
