  delightfully animated and full of whimsy, i was chuckling the entire time. every time you think it’s getting a little too dumb, there’s some wry quip or background character that’s already anticipated your disdain, and may have even been counting on it

  this captures the spiritual vibe of The Phantom Tollbooth much better than the atrocious 1970 adaptation

  music is exactly as good as it should be (i mean this as a positive)

  impeccable stuff that spans the whole spectrum of emotion - exhilarating, devastating, hilarious, heartbreaking, a real Powerful Film that’s as uncompromising as its protagonist. the beautiful screenplay, invigorating score, and jaw-dropping scenery (holy shit the Carrara quarry) are brought together by show stopping performances across the board, and the central project is truly a sight to behold

  masterful performances across the board. impeccable sound design (intelligible dialogue! in a nolan movie??). elegant and impactful use of color vs grayscale (in a story where very little is black and white). compelling and believable depictions of theoretical physicists actually theorizing about physics
