Never had any interest in watching this. But think it was genuinely very well executed. Sort of a better version of other films as opposed to being its own thing. Sound mixing, off the charts good, Editing the same. Much better than people may say it is.

Meeting the Man: James Baldwin in Paris 1970
There are huge problems with this documentary for sure. The absence of any trust between film maker and subject means that we miss out on some of the brilliance of Baldwin as he smokes and shrugs with disgruntlement for a few scenes.
But despite that I can’t help but feel that James Baldwins presence is more than enough to make anything not only watchable but really quite mesmerising.
We overuse words such as charisma and gravitas to describe historical figures…
