I heard that there is a new series of the same name but I found this movie instead. An unexpected masterful thriller following an assassin that needs no embellishing nor generic troupe to keep me engrossed. A classic example of filmmaking and clever storytelling.

Didn’t know what to expect but am glad I was surprised. An art house drama musical with some great musical numbers. Moving, even.

Zoe Saldana is wonderful and so is the captivating Karla Sofia Gascón.

Selena Gomez does take me out the movie with her stilted acting and American-accented Spanish.

Overall, one of the more memorable movies I have seen in 2024.

I find that every generation will have its poignant Larry Clark “Kids” movie, reflecting the youth in the most darkest corners and to the more beautiful (hopefully).

“Cuties” is one of the more memorable coming-of-age dramas I have seen in 2020, let alone in recent memory. Raw, painful, and beautiful.

There are cringeworthy moments in the film that may make you reflect on your own youth, your self-discovery, and a sense of wanting to belong.

    The Deepest Breath

    ★★★★½

The Deepest Breath, a documentary on the extreme sport of free diving, shares the range of emotions and visual storytelling as with the other extreme sports feature, Free Solo.

Deepest Breath takes us into the dangerous world of free diving through the eyes of two prominent free divers. Stunning cinematography and a beautiful original score punctuates these divers' lives.

The documentary does take creative liberty in (mis)leading the viewers guessing about our protagonists' fate to the end. It can leave one guessing or restless. No matter, it does add to a poignant ending and one that may leave some of us haunted.
