In the age of the shared expanded universe, there’s something to be said about a stand alone superhero trilogy where a subplot through the first films is able to satisfyingly come to the forefront, where expanding horizons reveals exciting new story opportunities, and where a consistent relationship drama compliments and enhances the superheroics in a realistic and compelling way.
This movie doesn’t do any of that shit, but there’s certainly something to be said about it.
