I’m annoyed by the reviews I’ve seen arguing this is a misogynistic, male-centric, pseudo-feminist tale of female empowerment through sexual liberation. To get caught up in that is itself a trope of third wave feminism and shows an inability to think past gender in a productive and truly feminist, humanistic way.
Beyond the gorgeous surrealistic sets and costuming, the incredibly dynamic cinematography and direction, and the outstanding (physical) performances, what works best for me about Poor Things is its exploration…
