absolute banger. character development is very 70s (there is almost none), this film moves fast and emphasizes that with a lot of shaky handi-cam footage. the stakeout scenes are so incredibly well done. when action happens it’s done right and at the exact right moment. perfect car chase scene in the middle act. the tension is palpable but not overbearing, and the plot is well paced. this could have been a 5 if not for the last 1/3rd throwing me for a bit of a loop. every performance is stellar and every shot a feast for the eyes. love this.

very well directed, great script and performances. amazing soundtrack. about 80% of the characters were totally unlikeable and I disliked that the film tried to redeem everybody in the end to leave us with purely good feelings. these people did a lot of bad things, the theme of young people being taken advantage of was certainly realistic and ‘of its time’ but was not enjoyable in 2025. the woman in this film aren’t always treated respectfully by the script, again…

some fun gags, and Bruce Campbell is always enjoyable. but this thing feels cheap in all the wrong ways, like horrible set design. bad script, some dated stuff that didn’t feel funny. feels kinda bad to rate this low, but still. runtime was perfectly short, and we watched two films this night. thank you for that Sam Raimi.

decent action, maybe not enough of it. but the writing didn’t do this any favors, and the portrayal of asian americans and their culture didn’t feel good in 2025. the big set pieces kind of underwhelmed and the love interest angle was pretty stupidly executed. gets 3 stars for being well directed and a healthy dose of excitement.
