Poor Things 2023
There’s something to be said about ambiguous films that don’t always have the most satisfying ending or plot line. Caché was a great example of this. These movies do a great job of sticking in your head and force you to think about them so you can get value out of the experience. But then there’s Poor Things; a movie with a very straightforward plot and concept and a very straightforward ending that wraps everything up in a neat bow. And despite this, it’s unbelievably memorable, powerful, and thought provoking.
We’re Costco Guys, of course we get 4 chicken bakes to see Poor Things!

A Different Man 2024
Wasn’t expecting this to completely blow me away. This is similar to The Substance in a lot of ways, obviously, but what stood out to me in both those films was the on the nose presentation of their themes. Both aren’t trying to hide what they’re about, but the execution makes up for what could come off as a force feeding of the meaning in a less competent film.
It also weirdly gave me some Synecdoche vibes for reasons I can’t explain but feel very true.
Maybe movie of the year??? Shout out Lionel’s mom fr. KILLER.
