Loved the first 3/4 of the film a lot more than the ending. As Edgar wright does so we’ll you are mesmerized by masterfully constructed sequences with stunning visual cinematic shots and transitions led by a powerful score. The appeal of the period and place are very much felt and make for a great contrast with the ugly social construct that we quickly find ourselves in. This is a masterclass on visualizing dreams and the crossover between reality and what happens in your mind. I just wish the ending had been more subtle. I wonder if the studio had anything to do with that.
The beginning in Italy really struck me and made me set up for a great finale of this bond saga. I wish I could say it didn’t disappoint. I was never bored with it. Army of the dead has some great things. The action sequences are amazing and the zombies look gorgeous. Everything else however is completely nonsensical. The plot is quite thin, and in stead of embracing that the movie attempts to shoehorn drama in that doesn’t exist beyond the scène where the subject is discussed. I love Amy Addams performance. I really liked the movie up until a certain moment. There were really interesting dialogue scènes, character introductions and montage sequences. I felt the acting was good, dialogue was good, camerawork was really trying to be different and succeeding mostly and editing was creating a frantic atmosphere really fitting the story.
