It was an adjustment for me—I wasn't prepared for a movie about Dickensian grave robbers and fated mates myths and a scruffy, dirty boy unable to maintain grasp on anything (reality, lovers, valuable heads of statues), but I enjoyed it and am interested in seeing more movies by Rohrwacher.
I'm sure the unwieldiness of the movie is part of its charm, but it is unwieldy. But again, this might just be my inexperience with the director's style.
